Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

 July 10
Cup of tea on the table (PG Tips of course), black sock on the foot, funny pouch thing (that many people insist on calling my murse) and extra key on the hook.  Nothing says home more than this combination.

 July 9
Lisa's pups! Super cute. Super licky.  Very loving and even more so forgiving.  Hollywood on top, Little dog (aka lolly) on bottom.  Woke up to many little presents while living with them and Lisa.  Camp out on the floor?  Good morning poo.  Sleeping on the couch bed?  dog at your feet and a poo on the top.  ha.  A small memory but an instant one from this image.  Fun times.

 July 8
Kasey sleeps on the couch.  The only time she couldn't stop me from drawing her was when she slept.  Too bad she's not more comfortable with the idea.  One day I hope.  She's a beautiful human being and I hope she someday realizes how very beautiful she really is.  One day.

 July 7
At the park, looking upon the humble teeny apartment.  There's a bird.

July 6
Lisa Huish.  Smoking a cig.  We'd been up a long time, not much sleep for months.  It's as if we would all just fade out after a while.......

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

 July 5
Today I had the pleasure in drawing two drawings.  One in the car while driving down the freeway (can you guess which one?) and the other while at Ethan Walker's house off Piyuma Canyon.  Driving drawings are really fun and not as dangerous as one may imagine.  One hand on the wheel and the other on the page, blind contour style.  No need to look down, just out.  the eyes draw and the hand translates.  a difficult  yet beautiful relationship.  Not much different than with a woman come to think of it.  John Taylor sits at a table for fifteen minutes while I get his likeness down (plus extra huge arms).  Shading done afterward.

 July 4
For the holiday we went to see the fireworks up on a huge boulder off Stunt Road.  Love that spot.  Looks right down at Malibu and on to Santa Monica down the way.  John Taylor sits with Eva Green.  Darkness falls along with my right hand.
 July 3
Sean Stevens at the table with a beer.  He is a good man.  He lets me draw him with the up-most patience.  Giants fan that one is.  Huge fan.  I remember one of his stories about going to Dodger stadium when it was Dodgers vs. Giants and he painted his face orange, wore the full gear, and had a Giant orange hand....plus went in a state of mind not recognized in the state of California.  Inside joke I suppose.

 July 2
Ethan's House (Walker).  Piyuma Canyon.  Spent much time over there.  Drawing, enjoying the great outdoors, all the greenery; a mellow life to say the least. Only good memories come from that house.

July 1
Drawing and driving again.  Blind contour again.  Shading done once stopped.  Lines done while driving.  Either on the 101 or the 405.  Pretty much the same thing...a desert of concrete expanding thousands of miles, stretching across endless cities. It's almost as if it has no beginning, no ending...nowhere to go.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 30
Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood at the Hollywood Bowl.  An amazing concert to say the least.  It will never cease to amaze me when I am so lucky to listen to live music coming from those who I had only heard on cd....wonderful and enlightening. Inspirational in all forms of art and a deep breath comes in to my lungs.

June 29
This was a very exciting drawing to draw.  It gave me great pleasure to find more peace within the busy city.  All I had to do was look up as the sun was coming down.

June 28
Sometimes a good drawing can come from simply looking down.  Drawing me drawing.  My hair is coming in from the top but it's not very focused because I 'aint focusing on it...

June 27
Another parking lot.  So great.  So beautiful.  Peaceful, calm, relaxing.  For objects that are literally driven so far and worked so hard, they get to rest momentarily in these big blacktop lots and sit so organized.  One calm space within the galactic chaos that is the city...a rarity.
June 25
Went to Corey Klass's new apartment.  He and all his buddies over there just sat and played video games the whole time whilst drinking whiskey.  BORING. So I chose to draw instead.  Ben Greenspan is at the top, Corey is to the left bottom, and their friend Ben just shaved his head.  Documentation is a marvelous experience.  Never thought I could remember so much as when I look back on these drawings.
June 26
Can you find where this was drawn from?  well no, you can't.  It's in Westchester park across from my place once again but you won't find this exact view since they tore the benches down that I drew between.  Now there is some weird looking tent sun shields.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 24 (part II)
...For here we are, one day later when I decided to finish the piece.  I drew my buddy Eric Freedman today but you can see it on yesterday's fold.  Eric now works for Sublime as part of the production team.  He's loving it and his boss is named "Cheese".  Couldn't get better and more mellow than working for Cheese.  I hope it's brie or havarti....sorry I just had to be cheezy!  hah!

June 23 (part I)
And so the next day I decided I'd go back to the park and draw the school in which I go to...and so here it is.  But that wasn't quite enough....

June 22
Ethan came over one day in the summer.  We both like to draw, and so we went to the park across the street from my apartment and drew.  he drew me and I drew him.  an exchange of personal images i suppose.  Fun either way.
June 21
Father's Day.  That's the dad.  Nigel is his name.  He puts his hand on his face pretty much every time he watches the television.  It's like his signature move.  He's a good dad.  I love him as you may imagine.

June 19
Drew a house but hadn't enough time to finish that day.  Some days you're lagging.
June 20
My buddy's band played at another friend's birthday show.  Doodled them playing. Thumb print came from the bank.  They've got some ink on the counter so it only makes sense to take a thumb print...right?

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 18
I know i looked like a creeper when i was in Whole Foods that day.  Just perched a spot for myself and began to draw.  45 minutes later I walked away, never to bee seen again...until one week later when I went shopping again.  It's all happening at register no. 9.  Can't you tell?

If you can't tell, this day is June 16
Apartment shot again.  Tiny piece of the Corbusier Chair.  love that thing!  you're looking at the "fake desk"  it's a real desk that is inlayed (wrong word in the context of the English language but such a great way to explain how this desk feels) into the cabinets.  Always wanted to use it but junk took over and claimed the land for itself...assholes.
June 17
Jenna Anderbery graduated that night.  SHe's my previous girlfriend's youngest sister.  Cool girl she is and is becoming.  I showed her some blues piano and she became obsessed with it and got pretty good...then eventually gave it up but now does fashion in highschool.  that last word should have been two words but it's always said together so why should they be apart?  Let the love flow between words..a synapse of letters.  Lovers needn't no space between them...well maybe sometimes.

June 14 (later that day once i'd slept)
Drew myself from looking down point of view...then decided to cover it up with a drawing of a "box chair" idea.   looks like a box,  unfolds into a chair.  vwalah!  sillynesss.
June 15
Westchester studio apartment.  that's the trash can.  used to rest by the stove but now it sits where I sat to draw it.  Wild fun playing house is.  Wild.

 June 13
Went to a bar in Santa Monica with my very good friend Efrat Sykoriev and her very good friend Sara Crane.  When the clock struck midnight Sara yelled out "happy birthday Efrat!!" and I then realized that I had once known Efrat's birthday and like a fool-a jerk-a bad friend I had forgotten.   Good thing I don't really feel that way and I know that Efrat doesn't care one bit.. we thought it was funny.  My mum's b-day is one month later so I always remember it that way...yea...this is useless info and i'ma stop now.  had a good night though.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 11
Sean Jen.  I knew this kid briefly over one semester.  We'd hang some times.  He would pay me $50 to drive him to games because he didn't have a car and didn't know LA very well at all.  Pretty nice gig I must say,  I would just sit and read, do my work, draw, etc. while waiting for him to be done with his games.  Went to Dodger Stadium, Staples Center, etc.
June 12
Haha i remember this day and it was pretty studpid/insane waiting for this thing...Facebook had a point in time when you could get your name as part of the website title.  I had recently joined a few groups consisting entirely of other Charlie Carroll's.  Being that my ego is bigger than one thousand suns, I decided that MY Charlie Carroll name must be superior to all the others by waiting until the very second when I could have MY title be facebook.com/charliecarroll!!! and it worked!  I was so excited, the world was mine for the taking!  None of the other few hundred Charlie Carroll's had shit on me cause I was THE charlie carroll now haha!  .....and then it dawned on me that I could have been THE CHARLIE and I totally fucked up by not waiting all that time to be the only charlie instead...  serves me right, right?

June 10 (still)
Up in the shop waiting for my chair to get CNC'd out.  That's the CNC machine to the right.  It's huge.  4'x8' does the trick most of the time.  LOVE that technology.   Such a sexy beast of a machine.

June 9
I don't even know what was going through my head that day.  Oh, sleep deprivation how I loathe thee...
June 10
I dreamed of doing this that night so I had to get up and do it.  Self portraits from memory of what I think I look like...sort of a cop-out since I have easy features to place on a blank face and call it myself.  Glasses, long curly hair, beared...i could probably add the same bits to Lady Gaga's face and people would recognize me still.

 June 7
Kelly Wescott sits playing video games whilst I sit and draw his face.  First time (and only time) I visited his place in Moorpark.  Funny how it's hard to even consider your friend's houses "homes" when they are young and living in apartments....just seems so temporary that i find it illogical to attach their faces to their places only to separate them over and over as the years go on and their places of residency change on a constant basis.  Did I just repeat myself i think i may have just repeated myself myself?...
June 8
Ryry Klass sits on the bench at the bottom of the hill on Mullholland at Miniholland where we climb them rocks.  Such a beautiful spot.  too bad some lame-o taggers decided to completely ruin the rocks with their spray paint, making it impossible to grip onto the slippery, congested volcanic rock.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 3
Lisa Huish at Lisa's house.  Her doppelganger on her side.  Trusty sewing machine behind.  TV watching as usual.  Oh, the good 'ol days.

**I just realized that I don't have to make new posts to place multiple images....ha.
June 4
Ethan Walker drawing at my place.  Wanted to do some watercolor that day.  Works out when your buddies like to draw too and they will just sit in one position for hours at a time.  opens up the possibilities.  Study with color, focus on the face and intensity of his drawing hand and concentration.

June 5
The guitars at the Westchester studio apt. (7075).  This was before Fu let me borrow his bass for a very long period of time. If I were to draw this same image today it would look a bit different.  I find the shape of the guitar rather difficult to draw for the curves must be perfectly placed in order to get the form to look convincing.
June 6
I went to my buddy Andrew Behjatnia's house in Woodland hills (i'm making that up cause i don't really remember where it was, I just remember the wooden fence in the front and the long stretch of street that it was on).  Some guy there commented to his friend that he purchased a baby extra-large t-shirt hoping that it would fit because it was the last size they had and he really liked the shirt!  haha.  Made me laugh, had to add it to the drawing.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

June 1
Bored and hating life at Homegoods, drew some of the paintings that were for sale.  Heat sensitive paper is pretty wild when it gets hot.  Wherever tape covers the paper it does not react to the heat.  When there's no tape, it goes black as you can see.
June 2
Fu Polluda sits in a chair at Lisa Huish's house.  These names might not mean much to you, but they mean a great deal to me.  Lovely people.  Gone their separate ways as people do.  Some day I shall reacquaint with them...some day.

"Hep Jive"

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 31
Lee Rock Choi used to live at a space somewhere in Westchester/Inglewood.  I went there.  It was cool.  Some guy he learns Jiu Jitsu from was playing the bass.  Another guy really wanted us to know that he was on the internet.  He probably mentioned it ten to twenty times in the hour-and-a-half that I was over there....and that's a pretty good run for someone stoned and lazy on a couch.  Maybe he was feeling uncomfortable and talking out of nervousness or something.  Ryan Boynton is in the back....and if you're wondering about that cross tattoo on his right arm, I told him I'd immortalize him in my book with a lame-o tattoo if he kept being an ass-face to me...and he did so here he is...and as far as you all know, he really does have that tattoo on his arm and I 'aint saying otherwise.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 30
With Kasey Crispin (the gf you know).  Quick drawings in restaurant settings is a pleasant experience and a great decompression from the devilishly mind-crushing powers that the school sucks out of your mind and soul (plus body).  Kasey sorta looks like a duck but not in real life.  I bet these kinds of drawings are the reason I'm not allowed to draw her any more....Study of watercolor to recede the environment back.  Focus points are quickly achieved too.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 28
Love to draw hands.  LOVE to draw hands.  I mean it.  LOVE it.
The caption says (from what i can read) "the world went along just as it was intended to...then came human.  We have reason-thank god!? so, as we figure out newer things (technology) we actually are killing animals off that once slksksjdjf sldkfjsj & tearing the threads of nature apart"  I must have been tired and thinking too hard that day...not much sleep back then.  I appreciate that whole sleep thing much more these days.
May 29
Buddies of mine.  Ben Greenspan on the top, Chris O'Keefe on the bottom (equipped with glorious snoopy shirt worn like a leader).

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 26
Pretty shitty quick drawing on that left side....I lagged that day that's for sure.  Whatever.  I do what i want.
May 27
On the right, yea that's right.  I designed a trellis for an elementary school called ACES in south central off Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd and 37th street i believe (?).  So this was one of the days we were there designing (I designed this thing with my buddy Maxine Brenda Wong and a professor and friend of mine Rogan Ferguson).  Such great fun that summer was.  Creating big projects that get produced and installed all within a short few months is an epic good time indeed.  All the little children sat and ate their food during their lunch period.  I'd forgotten about the whole bell system everyone had to follow.  Oh, how I remember the days of waiting for that bell to just ring god damnit!!  Thankfully it always did.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 25
I blended this girl I knew briefly with her pseudo-boyfriend guy (very awkward situation when he came home and decided to sit snug squashed between us on his couch as if I were trying to get with his girl).  She had a horrible tattoo of a hello kitty on her neck (you can see a bit of it peeking out)...well to everyone their own but hello kitty tattoo= Halloween scary! She wanted me to make her a sketchbook cover for her book but I got a strong impression that she didn't want to exchange any money and instead wanted free work from me and to show her how to do my thang....not my cup of tea so I slowly maneuvered my way out the door and into my car, never again to return to Culver City that year.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 23
That's the one on the left.  some eyes-closed drawings to get the day going.  Went to my buddy Teddy Thoren's house for his birthday party.  Great fun over in Malibou Lake.  Hung out on the lake for a good portion of the day until I had to jet back to get some work done for school.  4507. Remember that number.  Some imagined drawings of teddy and his place too...
May 24
Back in the chester.  Used to work over at Homegoods (do not work there it is awful).  On my extremely long lunch breaks I'd go over to Panera Bread and post up to draw the parking lots.  A part of my heart lives in parking lots.  I'm always finding myself stuck in them and the stacking of cars is great to see and to draw.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 22
Westchester, CA.  In the little studio apartment.  Looking into the bathroom.  Le Corbusier chair to the left (LC2...a great chair indeed.  Lovely design for the sophisticated type ofcourse).  Looks much tidier here than in reality.  Small space + lots of stuff = bad news

Random bit of work

Did this image a while ago.  When I was going to Moorpark College.  Thus, it must have been some time from 2003 to 2006 but it was more like 2006.  Not really important though.  If you are curious, That's Brahma the Hindu god of Creation.  He had five heads but got one cut off by Shiva if I remember correctly.  Fill in the rest.  Watercolor on paper with pen and framed in a homemade wooden frame that I constructed at my dad's warehouse at about 4am a few days before i had a show in Hollywood...wish i had just one picture from that show.  lots of time, effort, and money went into that show and not one picture to show for it.  I'm cool with that though...don't always need the proof just nice to have a relic of one's past. hated this thing for the longest time...then I "sold" it to a "friend" but he decided that he didn't want to pay for it past the initial $100 he gave me and another few bucks given to me about a year later...too bad that a piece separated a friendship that dated back to the 5th grade (Halloween he was phantom of the opera and I was Spiderman).

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 21.
This is a drunken blind contour over at Casey's tavern in the valley off Topanga Canyon Blvd on the 101.  Such a rad place to go.  I recommend it tenfold.  This must have been a thursday night because Thursdays are jazz night!! The band is composed of five really super old guys that some have been playing together for fifty years! That's a really long time.  Double my age.  I'm honored to listen to the music they play.  very good jazz covers of all the greats.  some bluegrass too.  drinks are super cheap also.  got $4?  then you have yourself a martini on the rocks!  got $5? then you have any single mixed drink in the house!  any time.  Can you beat that deal?  no you cannot yes i am speaking for you.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 20.
That's fat dad.  This is his birthday.  His name is Nigel.  He also goes by Nige (pronounced the same yet omitting the "el" sound).  I may have drawn my brother in this but I can't really tell and do not remember.  oh wait, it says so on the bottom...it's Will and my mum blended into one single creature.  that happens from time to time.  By the way, dad isn't really fat.  He's actually rather fit for his age.  A little chubbs around the waist area and the mother figure always seems to say that he's on a diet although I know he's never ever on a diet for more than one serving.  He's a goood dad.  gives the family lots of love and t-shirts.  Loves his technology and apple products (advertisement $$$$).

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 19.
I went to Corey Klass and James (his last name escapes me but is another man's first name)'s house in T.O. It was pretty cool.  They had a chair that was in Men in Black.  One of them met a woman that had something to do with that movie's props so he managed to get ahold of it.  "ahold" looks good as one word and I think of it that way whenever i say it.  "tusk" is another great word.  Just thought of it this instant.  Marcus!! that's his last name!!

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 17.
In the apartment.  Drawing the shelf and it looks like those annoying ego-maniac legs got in the way again.  So photogenic though....

May 18.
Cellar Door is supposed to be the most beautiful combination of words in the English language.  It is a nice combo.  Just sayin'.  I wanted to lay down a very rough watercolor before adding the pen.  And so this is the outcome from just outside my kitchen window.
May 16.
I completely forgot that I used to work at Homegoods on Manchester and Sepulveda until I looked at this image a few minutes ago.  That was by far the shittiest job I've ever had.  Do not work there even if you really really really really don't care where you work.  It is just not worth it.  Sell drawings on Venice beach.  That would be way cooler.  No one was happy in that store besides my buddy Cesar.  He was the coolest.  Chill guy who just wanted life to be cool, get paid, live happy.  An inspiration in a place like that.  So hard to be happy when everyone (customers, co-workers, and bosses...and their bosses) gives you shit, never smiles, and even has after hours speaker announcements to all the employees on the clock not to "sign up with any union people outside the store right now.  They will make you pay money! it is no good and a very bad idea.  You will not be allowed to leave work tonight until you sign a paper that we give you saying that you will NOT go with any union reps!"  That MUST have been illegal.  I think I quit about three days after they said that illegal bullocks to us.  Couldn't believe it....scariest part is that none of my co-workers agreed with me!  mind warped by the consumerist society and that evil $ign.  Makes the city a scarier place than it needs to be.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 15.
I used to live at Lisa's House (Huish).  She is the illest of the ill (and I mean that in sick terms, you know rad-talk...dogg).  She is an amazing human being and let me stay at her house free for a year.  I just made some food that she pretty much never ate and bought groceries that only I consumed and cleaned up as much as I could whilst going through the insanity that was escuela (is that how you spell it? correct me Spanish friends!).  One day she had a buddy over and they were up forever.  I hadn't slept in three days trying to get all that work done so it was time to sleep whether I liked it or not.  Since i slept on the couch-bed that was more like a bowl than a flat surface (levels would just burst into one thousand pieces if you tried to place it on this mattress it was so curved) and they were watching the boob-tube on it, I posted my sleeping bag on the floor.  Next morning I woke up to a dog trying to creep her way into the bottom of my pack (which freaked me out more than when I found out who framed Rodger Rabbit) and a poop right by where my head was rested all night.  Double scared that morning.  ever afraid you won't wake up for an important endeavor in the morning?  well i know just the thing...
May 14.
In Westchester again (typical) and at Dockweiler beach...or close to it if that info is incorrect.  There's a grassy area near by with lots of palm trees and a pretty good slope to sit on and look at the ocean.  Best part is that cool mist you get from jet fuel trickling down from closely passing airplanes overhead since LAX is DIRECTLY behind this spot.  I bet I could hit a 747 with an apple if I so chose to do something as irresponsible and unpatriotic as that, cause you know, I'm like a total american and all man.  I mentioned earlier that Kasey wouldn't let me draw her front side for over a year...but at least I got the back side to work with (stay clean you sick minded rotting brain children that have too much internet access).  She likes the "pure heart" yerba mate teas (the purple one). she gets 'em at Whole Foods.  Yea that's right.  I'm a trendy bastard who likes good organic food.  Hippie? You're damn right I 'aint.  All man? hell yea!

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

May 13.
Over off Piuma Canyon road in Malibu/Calabasas area.  Such a cool house and this was when Aaron Papazian (Fatty Fatts) was living with his mom.  We used to hang in the garage once he cleaned it all out...before that we'd just have a good 'ol time on his driveway and it used to be the place to be for a long time (since high school).  Good times over there.  Tried playing basketball many-a-times but yea...I am not one to play that game.  Leave balls outta my hands I always say.  Anyways, rad guy so he had to be slightly immortalized (complete with fade-out face) in a drawing.  Now he's got a rad house that he purchased through my mum (she's a realtor) in Thousand Oaks.  Still have yet to check the finished product out.  Awesome individual though.  gotta say. just gotta.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

Day 7 (May 11).
I tried to draw Kasey and screwed up....but i guess some days you're just off...and that's ok.  The bad days make light of the good ones.  Only problem was her reaction.  I wasn't able to draw her face again (with her permission hah) for over a year and now it's 1.5 years and I still haven't drawn her!
Day 8 (May 12).
At the park in Westlake Village.  Mellow day.  Drawin' in the park..my leg got in the way it looks to be yes it does there it is you can't deny it nope you cant.

Daily Drawings (may 2009 to may 2010) one a day, 365 days.

Day 6 (May 10).
This is my brother.  His name is William Michael John Carroll and he's a huge inspiration to the music and artwork I produce.  This guy has made well over 700 finished songs (ranging from ambient tracks to techno to soft rock to metal to jazz fusion to blues and ever so much more)....did I mention that he's only 22? well he is.  Yep.  It's true.  Rad guy, says words only when absolutely necessary, takes after Father Carroll in his mannerisms, and went to school to become a sound engineer (check out his site...I think it's asoundengineer.com also check out williamcarrollfashion.com there's more but I can't remember at this moment).  Basically, William = cool as fuck.
